The Verney Road proposal is a mixed use development from Argon Capital comprising three tall buildings, the largest of which will be 24 storeys.

The scheme will deliver 338 new homes. This includes 112 new affordable homes, 79 of which will be for social rent. It will also include more than 5,000 sqm of business space.

Planning permission for the development at 6-12 Verney Road was granted at Planning Commitee last night (17 June) subject to GLA referral and signing of a Section 106 agreement.

The regeneration of Old Kent Road presents a unique chance to tackle Southwark’s housing crisis. Overall, 20,000 new homes are set to be built in the area, at least 35 per cent of which will be affordable homes, including 5,000 at social rent.

Schemes such as this one and the recently approved developments at Cantium Retail Park, Ruby Triangle, Southernwood Retail Park and Malt Street mean the council is on track to meet its target.
