Southwark Council officers joined Guildmore Group  and Hexagon Housing Association to celebrate the topping out of their development on Old Kent Road on Monday.

This 100 per cent affordable housing scheme will deliver 46 new affordable homes.

Located on a constrained, infill site at 634-636 Old Kent Road, the scheme sits directly above the route of the planned Bakerloo Line Extension. This has added significant technical complexity to the project.

Last year, Southwark Council allocated some £2.4m in CIL funding to ensure both this development and the Bakerloo Line Extension could still go ahead. Since then, close coordination between Guildmore, Hexagon, TfL and specialist designers has ensured the issues around noise, vibration and protecting the planned Bakerloo tunnel have all been addressed.

Monday’s topping out ceremony brought together representatives from Hexagon Housing Association, Southwark Council, Martin Arnold and Guildmore to celebrated the combined efforts and collaboration that has helped the scheme to reach this milestone.

The ceremony included speeches from Jennifer Currier, Interim Director of Development at Hexagon and Engin Ertosun, CEO of Guildmore Group.
