Boost for new council homes at Tustin estate

Southwark Council will accelerate council house building at the Tustin estate with £54.6m from the GLA.

Southwark’s revised plan for the second phase of construction at the Tustin estate will see new council homes built earlier than originally scheduled.

Under the updated plan, 284 council homes will be built in Phase 2, up from 120 originally planned. Homes previously planned to be keyworker homes will now become council homes, ensuring more families in housing need benefit from stable, secure and truly affordable homes.

The Greater London Authority (GLA) has confirmed £54.6 million in grant funding to support these changes – an increase of nearly £30 million.

As part of the work, Tustin Estate will also see wider estate improvements including new green spaces, walking and cycling routes, EV charging points, and connection to the low-carbon South-East London Combined Heat and Power (SELCHP) network, to help cut carbon emissions.

Phase 1 of the Tustin estate renewal is nearly complete, with 167 new homes, including 157 council homes, ready for residents, shortly. The Phase 2 early works are starting this month with the main construction works in April 2026.

Overall, the Tustin estate renewal will provide 690 high-quality new homes, alongside community facilities and environmental improvements, supporting.
