A new housing scheme, approved by Southwark Council’s planning committee yesterday, will deliver more than 200 new homes for Old Kent Road.

Sylvan Grove
The Sylvan Grove scheme will deliver 219 new homes.

Sylvan Grove is a mixed-use development from Joseph Homes that will be built on the site of Daisy business park in SE15.

It will create 219 new homes and almost 3,000 sqm of commercial workspace, across two buildings, one 5 storeys in height and the other, 32.

The development also includes a public open space – a ‘ garden square’ on the ground floor level – which will ‘complete’ the large  open space planned as part of the Devonshire Square development, next door.

59 of the new homes will be affordable housing including more than 25 per cent for social rent. The new commercial space is expected to support 265 jobs.

Since 2015, planning permission has been granted for more than 7,000 new homes in the Old Kent Road area, including more than 2,000 affordable homes. And the regeneration is expected to create 10,000 new jobs, overall.

In total, 20,000 high quality, new homes are due to be built in the area, 35 per cent of which (around 7,000) will be affordable including 5,000 at social rent.
