I live on Old Kent Road
Old Kent Road will be a become a better place to live.
35,000 people currently live in and around Old Kent Road, however, the area still has something of an industrial feel. With thousands of new homes planned, the regeneration will make it a much more residential area. It will become a more cohesive neighbourhood, with a proper town centre, high street and new parks.
20,000 new homes are planned, including 7,000 affordable homes which will bring many more families to live in the area. A range of new facilities are planned to support these new residents, including a new school, three new parks and better shopping and leisure opportunities. And when the new Bakerloo Line stations arrive, local residents will be better connected to the rest of London than ever before.
– something on our local lettings policy?
I work or commute along Old Kent Road
The 9,000 people who work in the area will benefit, greatly from the new facilities and infrastructure. The transport improvements, especially the Bakerloo line extension, will make it much easier to get to work. The new town centre and leisure facilities will make it a much more attractive place to spend a lunch hour or a night out after work. And the improvements to air quality will improve the quality of life for commuters and local workers.
I run a business on Old Kent Road
Mixed-use developments are at the heart of the plans for Old Kent Road. This means that homes and business space will intermingled and concentrated in specific neighbourhoods around the area. This will create a more vibrant environment in which to trade, manufacture and retail. There will be an increased footfall of potential customers and there will be easier access for suppliers and buyers.
I visit Old Kent Road
People who live, work or shop in Old Kent Road are familiar with all it has to offer but it’s never really been on the map as a destination for visitors from other parts of London. This is set to change. The new town centre, combined with better transport links, will attract a whole new generation of visitors – many of them getting to know Old Kent Road for the first time. With the cultural institution proposed by the Tate museum for Mandela Way, Old Kent Road has the potential to draw in visitors looking for more than just shopping or restaurants.
