Jobs Fair 8 December
Find out about career opportunities and free training for Southwark residents at the Southwark Construction Skills Centre Jobs Fair.

Come and explore the free training and career opportunities available at the brand-new home of Southwark Construction Skills Centre (SCSC) in Canada Water on Wednesday 8 December.

The SCSC is a joint initiative by Southwark Council and The Skills Centre.

Having started in Elephant and Castle, the Centre’s new location at Hawker House is in the heart of the Canada Water regeneration area just 30 minutes walk from Old Kent Road and close to many construction job opportunities on developments nearby.

The Jobs Fair, held on behalf of SCSC, British Land and Art-Invest, will mark the official opening of Southwark Construction Skills Centre’s new home which is part of Art-Invest’s Canada Water Dockside site.

The centre welcomes those who may have recently been made redundant; are looking for a new job or simply want to retrain or upskill.

So come along on Wednesday 8 December from 14:30 to 16:30 to hear about the opportunities available from major developers and builders including Keltbray, Mace, Wates, Galldris and McAleer & Rushe.

You do not need to book just drop-in on the day.

The Director of Southwark Construction Skills Centre, John White MBE, said:

“It will be wonderful to officially open the doors of our new home and there will be many job and training opportunities for those looking for a career in construction. This is a chance for the community to come together to learn more about the training centre, the work it does in the area and the people it has helped to start new careers.

Southwark is surrounded by many major construction projects at the moment, and our mission at Southwark Construction Skills Centre is to unleash the potential of those people who have never considered a construction career before and get them their first position and a foothold on that career ladder.”

Cllr Jason Ochere, Cabinet Member for Business, Jobs and Town Centres, Southwark Council said;

“The Construction Skills Centre has been a huge asset for our borough since it first began in 2016. Now it’s set to continue its fantastic work at a new home in Canada Water. There has never been a better time to get work or training in construction. For any local resident looking for work or just for a chance to improve their skills, especially young people, this jobs fair is a great opportunity. So come along on 8 December to find out more.”

The SCSC moved from Elephant Park (its base for the last five years) to its new headquarters in Canada Water earlier this year.

During its time at Elephant and Castle, SCSC trained more than 10,000 local residents, helped create more than 3,000 construction jobs and contributed around £40m in social value to the local economy.
