Final stage for the Area Action Plan

Southwark Council has submitted the Old Kent Road Area Action Plan to Examination in Public.

The plan for Old Kent Road will deliver 20,000 new homes and 10,000 jobs in the area

Last week, the council sent the final draft of the Old Kent Road Area Action Plan to the Planning Inspectorate for an Examination in Public (EIP).

The plan, which is the result of many years of extensive work and community engagement, will guide and manage new development and growth in the area over the next 20 years.

Thousands of local people and businesses have fed back on different versions of the plan since the council began consulting in 2016 – all helping to inform the final draft..

The plan includes proposals for:

  • The Bakerloo line extension
  • 20,000 homes, of which at least 7,000 will be affordable
  • 10,000 new jobs
  • A new high street environment with new community facilities
  • New parks

The plan is already being delivered

Housing and industrial space

  • 3,242 new homes built or under construction
  •  1,343 new social rented homes under construction
  • 693 new intermediate homes (mainly shared ownership and discount market sale) under construction
  • 37,500 sqm of new industrial and logistics space built or under construction

Park improvements

  • Brimmington Park
  • Bird in Bush Park
  • Bramcote Park
  • Northfield House community garden
  • Pevril Gardens
  • Pat Hickson Garden
  • Ruby Street pocket park
  • Leyton Square
