Transport for London’s draft Business Plan for 2026 includes funding for a new fleet of trains to service the Bakerloo Line.

Cllr Helen Dennis, Southwark Council’s Cabinet Member for New Homes and Sustainable Development said:

“We’re delighted that the Bakerloo Line is due to get the green light for much-needed new trains – replacing some of the oldest trains in use anywhere in the country.

This will bring a much better service for passengers more trains every hour – 27 instead of 20. This upgrade is in effect the first phase of the Bakerloo Line Extension and a prerequisite.

We will continue to work with TfL on the proposed Bakerloo Line Extension, which would support 150,000 jobs, unlock thousands of new homes and bring better access to jobs and opportunities across the capital. The new station box at Elephant and Castle has been completed ready to accommodate the extension.

With overwhelming support from residents, local councils, and London’s business community, the extension as a vital project would transform London and help drive national economic growth.

In the meantime local residents can benefit from improved public transport following the introduction of the Bakerloop bus service which is partly funded from development in the borough of Southwark.”

The news was published this week in TfL’s 2026 Draft Business Plan (PDF).
