Local residents have their say on Bramcote Park

Assemble, The Landscape Partnership and Southwark Council held a Neighbourhood Meet-Up and Play Day in Bramcote Park last month.

Bramcote Play Day
The Meet-Up and Play Day provided an opportunity to discuss plans to revamp both the park and Rotherhithe New Road

The Meet-Up and Play Day, held on 15 October, was part of an ongoing conversation with local people about the plans to revamp the park as well as an opportunity to talk about the Greening Rotherhithe New Road project.

Play space will be central to the redesigned park which will include both a new public square and a landscaped forest garden. The play day enabled children and parents to share their thoughts on what makes a park a fun place to be.

The square will include an adaptable play area that can be transformed on special occasions for community events, while the forest garden will comprise open spaces which feel like the start of a wood or a meadow glade.

The Landscape Partnership also joined the event to talk to local residents about plans to transform Rotherhithe New Road. These include proposals to convert a stretch of featureless tarmac/pavement into a new green space and plans for a new cycle and pedestrian footway.

As well as an opportunity for a family day out, the event gave local residents the chance to talk about their own experiences of the area and aspirations for what it could be in the future.

Feedback included suggestions for introducing more colour to the park; better lighting; planting fruit trees (to encourage foraging) and building stepping-stones for children’s games.

This will be an interactive session to engage with young people in an informal, low key and relaxed atmosphere (including free pizza).

The Landscape Partnership will email all the latest information on the plans to local shops and businesses to gain further input from the community.

There will also be more engagement work with John Keats and Ilderton Primary schools.
