The Verney Road scheme will deliver 100 per cent social housing

Two new housing schemes by Pocket Living were approved by Southwark Council’s planning committee on 2 February.

In total, they will deliver 139 new homes for Old Kent Road.

The larger scheme, on Ossory Road will create 117 new homes aimed at single people and first-time buyers. The second scheme will deliver a further 22 new homes on Verney Road, all of which will be for social rent.

These two developments follow another successful housing scheme from Pocket Living on Varcoe Road (next door to the site of the proposed Verney Road development) which delivered 57 one-bedroom homes in 2019.

The Ossory Road scheme, located close to Burgess Park, will comprise an 11 storey block on what is currently an industrial site and will also include industrial space alongside the new housing.

The Verney Road scheme, located close to Bramcote Park, will see the demolition of a small office block, Credon House, to make way for a nine-storey building comprising 22 new social rent homes.

Since 2018, planning permission has been granted for more than 8,300 new homes in the Old Kent Road area. And there are currently 2,000 homes under construction – 40 per cent of which are affordable homes.

In total, 20,000 high quality, new homes are due to be built in the Old Kent Road area as part of the regeneration programme. 35 percent of these (around 7,000) will be affordable homes including 5,000 at social rent.
