74 new homes approved in a mixed-used development in Varcoe Road

The regeneration of Old Kent Road presents a unique opportunity to tackle Southwark’s housing crisis and this scheme, at 2 Varcoe Road, will deliver 74 new homes including 24 affordable homes, of which 17 will be for social rent.

Our vision for Old Kent Road is to build on its unique creative character, as a place where industry can thrive alongside new homes and quality open spaces. In total, 20,000 high quality, new homes are due to be built in the Old Kent Road area, 35 per cent of which (around 7,000) will be affordable including 5,000 at social rent.

This mixed-use development, which is on a former industrial site in Varcoe Road, also includes a roof terrace and almost 300 sqm of space for commercial use.

Since 2015, planning permission has been granted for more than 5,900 new homes in the Old Kent Road area, including more than 2,100 affordable homes.

Several of these schemes are already under construction and more are in the planning pipeline.

As well as new homes and workspace, all of these developments make a financial contribution to projects which will provide additional benefits to the local community; from improvements to parks and open space through to arts, culture and education.
